Position opening for Environmental Officer
€15,500 gross p/a, (salary €900 net per month)

Job Description

MEDASSET - The Mediterranean Association to Save the Sea Turtles - is an international non-governmental organization (NGO) founded in 1988, working for the conservation of sea turtles and their habitats throughout the Mediterranean. It is involved in conservation and scientific research programmes, public awareness, environmental education, and lobbying decision-makers. It works closely with its sister NGO in the United Kingdom, which shares its name and principal objective but is a separate legal entity.
MEDASSET is seeking a native English-speaker as a fulltime Environmental Officer at their Central Athens head office in Greece.

Job duties include:
1. Ongoing promotion, development and implementation of the environmental campaign strategy for MEDASSET's international public awareness campaigns;
2. Writing and editing, newsletters, advertisements, brochures, factsheets, features, news stories, etc.;
3. Editing and co-writing reports/articles;
4. Ensuring consistent production of thorough, accurate written communication;
5. Researching funding sources: writing and submitting research proposals to international funding bodies;
6. Public relations with media and press, preparing press releases and media stories for the website; maintaining and improving website materials.
7. Participating in project team meetings and attending national and international meetings with third parties as required;
8. Travelling as required;
9. Office administration work including filing and data retrieval, campaigns, correspondence, editing etc.
Skills Required
The ideal candidate should be a natural communicator, patient and possess excellent attention to detail, be dedicated to the conservation cause, strongly independent, resourceful, adaptable and imaginative in development of ideas. They should have experience in office admin and writing funding proposals. Experience in the environmental field, environmental public awareness communications and/or PR would be a considerable advantage, as would experience in fields such as campaigns, project management, journalism and understanding the core elements needed to ensure successful campaigns.
Additional Qualifications:
• Excellent skills in using basic software systems (Microsoft office, internet, Microsoft Outlook). Experience of working with design software (Photoshop, Corel) would be an advantage.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to multi-task and think proactively
• Knowledge of Greek would be an advantage
