Cultural and technological
innovation have characterized the countries of the Mediterranean
throughout history. It is important that the children of the region
should cherish this legacy and understand the essential role played
by the Mediterranean marine environment.
While the growing challenges facing the coastal and marine
environments of the region are being progressively addressed by
the member countries to the Mediterranean Action Plan, it is essential
that we educate the children of the Region about their natural and
cultural heritage so that they too can be motivated to preserve
it.
I applaud your initiative in devising this
environmental education Kit which promotes children’s active
involvement. I hope ‘The Mediterranean Sea, a Source of Life’
will be disseminated as widely as possible, and I wholeheartedly
support your goal of publishing it in all the languages of the Mediterranean.

I found this tool kit well structured and impressive
and I believe that it is very important as an information and education
tool for children.
I would like to congratulate you for your efforts to disseminate
knowledge about the Mediterranean marine environment and the species
it hosts and to urge you to continue your efforts.

It was Leonardo da Vinci who first warned the
world that the Mediterranean was in danger from misuse and pollution.
Over half a millenium later this visionary wallet of hands on interactive
information produced by MEDASSET, the Hellenic Children's Museum
and Kaleidoscope Publications mirrors his concern, but points the
way ahead to a new age of understanding and positive action for
"Our Sea".
Mare nostrum, a source of life, whose shores and waters are so interwoven
with the roots and routes of human endeavour that the whole world
knows of its heritage.
In the hands of the next generation the tide of destruction can
be turned, ensuring that the full panoply of wild and wonderful
things can live in peace and harmony within a new civilization that
really knows, understands and cares about the future.

"The materials are very well prepared, clear
in their ideas and providing systematic information on various aspects
of the Mediterranean Sea..."
"I think that the concept of the materials is excellent."
"I could only wish to see more of this type of materials produced
by relevant organisations."
"I am particularly pleased with this material as a person who
is already for about 35 years involved in the protection and development
of the Mediterranean..."
