The
Hellenic Children’s Museum is a non-profit educational and
cultural organisation, established in 1987. In collaboration with
the Municipality of Athens Cultural Organisation, it created the
Children’s Museum at 14 Kidathineon Street in Plaka in 1994.
The HCM's role in producing the Kit
The Museum provided assistance with regard to the appropriate
educational methodology, so that the package would encourage critical
thinking, initiative, creativity and desire for knowledge, as well
as sensitization to environmental issues.
The Children’s Museum is a space specially designed to meet
the needs and abilities of children, and to support the parents
and the teachers who contribute to their development. The philosophy
of the Museum is based on a contemporary educational theory, showing
that children learn most effectively through active participation
and interaction with objects.
The Children’s Museum is a place that offers educational and
recreational opportunities, and constitutes an important first step
in a child’s familiarity with the concept of a “museum”.
