| As part of the celebrations for UNEP’s World
Environment Day, the St Catherine’s British Embassy School, Athens,
Greece, and MEDASSET held slide shows and talks at the school based on
the political barriers to sea turtle conservation in a world of global
citizenship, and the need for conflict resolution skills.
350 students, aged 7 – 17 enjoyed images of sea turtles ranging
from the exotically beautiful, to sometimes of disturbing inflicted injuries.
The effects of uncontrolled coastal development on creatures of the sea
and shoreline were also highlighted.
The students learned that the large and growing list of endangered species
around the world is a problem that must be faced now, otherwise as adults
they could be facing an environmentally depleted planet in their lifetime.
