Loggerhead (Caretta caretta) Turtle Greek Postage Stamp
(Order form below using our secure payment system)

Three years of lobbying the Hellenic Post Office ended in success! On the 16th March 1990 the first series of stamps featuring endangered wildlife in Greece was released: the Loggerhead sea turtle, the Lynx, the Brown Bear and the Mediterranean monk seal.
Postage stamps are a medium for communication, information, awareness and education,
sending a unique message across the world. This series is a small way to make a big
difference in National and International public awareness promoting
the conservation of endangered wildlife.
Inauguration day (30th May 1990) of the MEDASSET
office in Athens was celebrated by the creation of a special One
Day Commemorative Seal to frank the stamps as collectors' items.
The Commemorative seal was destroyed later that day.
The world's first sea turtle stamp was issued on the 5th December 1932
by the Caribbean Cayman Islands. As of 2006, the Sea
Turtle Postage Stamps website features 1026
stamps (including overprints) from 169 countries and territories.
