Communications and Events Officer

Job Description

MEDASSET – The Mediterranean Association to Save the Sea Turtles – is an international non-governmental organization (NGO) founded in 1988, working for the conservation of sea turtles and their habitats throughout the Mediterranean. It is involved in conservation and scientific research programmes, public awareness, environmental education, conservation initiatives and lobbying decision-makers.

MEDASSET is seeking a native Greek-speaker as a fulltime Communications and Events Officer (12 months) at their head office in Athens, Greece.

Job duties include:

➢ Design, manage and implement MEDASSET’s communications strategy and plan with a view to promote public and media outreach.
➢ Events management. Produce detailed proposal for events (timelines, venues, suppliers, legal obligations, budgets, e.t.c.) and manage and coordinate suppliers and all event logistics.
➢ Supervise and manage the design and maintenance of the website.
➢ Develop content for the website and social media platforms ensuring consistency of the materials.
➢ Develop promotional activities and messages for use by MEDASSET’s staff when working with partners, internationally and nationally.
➢ Review documents and materials intended for use within and outside the organisation in order to ensure consistency and validity of messages.
➢ Design and produce promotional material, newsletters, brochures, fact sheets, features, and a regular supply of media stories for the website.
➢ Manage editorial coordination across all departments and programmes
➢ Coordinate the production process for publications and other communications material, including ongoing liaison with the design agency.
➢ Public relations with media, prepare press releases, news stories, etc.
➢ Identify key communications opportunities and moments;
➢ Office administrative work, including filing and data retrieval, correspondence, editing, database updating, etc.
➢ Maintain regular communication and promote cooperation with sponsors, donors, members, “Friends”, supporters, other NGOs, etc.
➢ Respond to general queries and provide information to the public.
➢ Promote learning and knowledge sharing across the organization and build staff capacity.
➢ Perform any additional tasks and/or projects when requested by the Director.

Skills and qualifications required

The ideal candidate should have at least 4 years of proven professional work experience in designing and executing communication activities preferably in environmental programmes. A University degree in a related field is required and a Master’s degree in international relations media relations, journalism or public relations is considered an asset. Experience in working with environmental NGOs is desirable.

➢ Strong interpersonal and communication skills demonstrated by the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
➢ Excellent organizational skills demonstrated by the ability to prioritize, establish and follow through on a course of action, and adopt a proactive approach with an ability to multi-task.
➢ Ability to create and maintain partnerships in a multi-cultural environment.
➢ Excellent skills in managing basic PC software systems (Microsoft office, Internet, etc.). Knowledge of WordPress and experience with design software (Photoshop, Corel) is considered to be an advantage.
➢ Excellent written and oral communication skills both in Greek and English are required.
➢ Ability to work in a team and to sometimes tight deadlines in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment.
