At a regional level, we participate in EU policy making processes and advocate for improved protection of Europe’s seas and coasts. To accomplish this, we join forces with other NGOs and networks. Our main current focus is on the EU’s Habitats Directive, the Single-Use Plastics Directive, Integrated Coastal Management and Maritime Spatial Planning policies, the Common Fisheries Policy, and the Marine Strategy Framework Directive. The EU plays a pivotal role in environmental policy not only within its member states, but also in candidate countries, as well as in third countries around the globe, e.g., through trade, fisheries, and climate change policies and agreements.
